The smart LCD screen clearly displays the progress of automatic or manual settings from dough to finished product.
I tried to make this recipe several times, but it was just not well done. The surface of the bread was bumpy and the outside was very caramelized. The crust, while a bit thin on the surface, was a nice color and had a nice crumbly texture.
The Breville wheat bread recipe was not as good. As with the white bread, we found it to be more problematic. It had to be mixed thoroughly, which resulted in a flattened loaf on one side and a lumpy loaf instead of a size that could be properly used in a sandwich. The crust and inside of the bread are correct in texture and color, but nothing special. The base of the wheat bread was quite thick and took extra effort to cut.
This bread machine struggled to produce decent gluten-free bread. The resulting bread barely puffed up and had a lot of flour floating around inside. The crust appeared to be a good medium-dark baking color, but the surface was almost crustless, with a nice contrast between the lightness of the surface and the darkness of the sides. The dough was undercooked and easily doughy when pressed with a finger.

How Do I Choose Best Bread Machine (Maker) Under The Budget of 100 USD | Ultimate Buyer's Guide 2023
A bread machine is a machine that promotes bread making and gives fresh bread at home. By using a bread machine, you can enjoy the taste and color of delicious bread at home. Before buying a bread machine, you need to know some important factors that are helpful in choosing a good bread machine.
Bread Capacity (Loaf Size)
Think about how many people you want to feed with your freshly baked bread and consider how much bread you can finish before it goes stale. Many bread machines have settings for different loaf sizes, but the maximum size varies from machine to machine.
Most bread machines produce 1.2 kg loaves, but some models can bake 2.5 kg family loaves. Theoretically, you can add more or less flour and water to any bread machine to make a larger or smaller loaf, but if you try to bake a 2-pound loaf in a machine designed for 1-pound loaves, it may turn out pale, undercooked, or lift too much off the pan. Also, if you bake a small loaf in a machine designed for larger loaves, you risk getting a very short loaf with a dry texture and a crust that is too dark and thick.
Also, Keep in mind that larger and heavier loaves of bread will require more power to bake. Most bread machines have between 500 and 1000 watts of power. If you plan to bake heavier loaves of bread or those with many extra ingredients, such as nuts, seeds, or dried fruits, it is best to choose a bread machine at the higher end of this power range to ensure that it can bake heavier loaves efficiently.
Machine Size and Weight
Larger machines are less easy to move and store, but generally offer more baking options. Smaller machines are easier to store when not in use, but may have fewer settings and are not capable of producing large loaves of bread.
Shapes of Loaf
When baking bread in the oven, you can choose the shape and size of the pan, or you can make free-form loaves by hand. When baking bread in the bread machine, all the loaves will have the same basic shape, since only one loaf pan can be used. Most bread machines produce loaves of tall/vertical or rectangular shape.
Cheap bread machines have at least one kneading paddle, while high-end ones usually have two. For the best kneading results, it is best to have more than one paddle.
If the kneading machine blades are left in place during baking, the loaves will have one or two holes where the blade was. Most users accept this aesthetic flaw in the final product in exchange for the ease and convenience of enjoying freshly baked bread.
However, if you prefer loaves of bread without these holes, look for a bread machine with folding or removable blades. Machines with removable blades beep after kneading, allowing you to remove the dough, remove the blades, and then return the dough to the pan for final rising and baking.
Pre-programmed Baking Settings
Today's bread machines come with many features, which can be fun to try, but a machine with too many functions may be too complicated for your needs. Do you want to try different styles of bread or are you content to make loaves of bread for sandwiches every week?
The simplest machines offer a few variations, but some include settings for sweet bread, whole wheat bread, sourdough, French bread, pizza dough, and so on. Each of these settings adjusts the kneading, rising, and baking times to produce the best possible bread for these types of bread.
The extra settings are useful for those who want to experiment with different grains and bread styles, but a simple bread machine will suffice if your goal is to make basic sandwich bread to replace store-bought bread.
Express settings are also available to mix, knead, and bake a loaf in less than an hour, a useful feature if you want to make a quick loaf to serve for dinner.
Most bread machines offer the option of processing the dough without baking it. If you prefer, you can bake the dough in the bread machine in a regular oven. You can also bake the dough without mixing or kneading it if you want to make cakes or muffins in the bread machine. You can find bread machines with options for making jam or yogurt, but these settings are useful only if they are actually used.
Some bread machines have fruit and nut dispensers built into the lid, so you do not have to be near or remember to add them to the dough before baking. You can fill these dispensers with nuts, seeds, or dried fruits, such as raisins or chopped apricots, and at the same time you add the bread ingredients to the pan. Most machines with these automatic dispensers are programmed to release the additions into the dough toward the end of the kneading period so that the ingredients are not crushed or shredded by the mixer blades.
Most bread machines have a setting that allows you to choose the crust intensity, from light to medium or dark. Although this function is not essential for making good bread, it is nice to be able to control the crust intensity when making special bread.
Sweetbreads can brown very quickly, while other doughs may require a little more baking time to overcome the light color of the crust. The degree of crust darkening is also a personal preference, so it can be nice to choose the exact result you want each time.
If you want to keep an eye on your crust as it browns, considers a bread machine with a porthole built into the lid that allows you to observe the bread-making process from dough to baking.
If you have ever made gluten-free bread, you will know that the process is different from that of a standard loaf and that the dough behaves very differently. Although many bread machines offer settings for gluten-free, look for a machine that prioritizes this function if you intend to focus on gluten-free bread. Some machines have only one setting for gluten-free bread, while others have multiple options for different types of gluten-free bread.
Of course, results vary depending on the type of flour used. It is therefore best to check which gluten-free recipes are suitable for your bread machine. If you intend to make gluten-free bread in a bread machine that has already been used for regular bread, you will need to clean every inch of it to remove any gluten residue that could contaminate your gluten-free bread.
When making gluten-free bread, it can be helpful to scrape the sides of the pan. Jessica Galsworthy, a UK-based recipe developer, explains that "gluten-free bread dough is not like 'regular' bread dough... it is very moist and almost cake-like." During the kneading stage, bits added to the loaf (chocolate chips, toffee, fruit, etc.) can be pushed out of the mold. Once the bread machine has moved to the rising stage, open the lid and scrape all around the outside of the pan, bringing all the pieces back to the center."
Whichever machine you choose, the best quality loaves take about four hours or more to knead, rise and bake. Some machines have fast baking cycles that produce a finished loaf in less time, but even that may not be fast enough if you want your bread fresh for breakfast and don't want to wake up early to measure flour, water, and yeast.
The delayed start option allows you to have fresh bread ready when you want it, whether you wake up to the smell of bread baking or want it ready when you get home from work to accompany dinner.
On average, you can spend between $100 and $150 for a decent bread machine from a mid-range brand. Some cheap brand bread machines can cost less than $100, while other high-end brands such as Breville and Zojirushi can cost $300 or more.
The typical warranty for bread machines is one year and usually covers manufacturing defects rather than wear and tear or misuse. Specific coverage may vary by manufacturer and model, so it is always a good idea to check the details before purchasing.
Types of Bread Machines
Vertical bread machines
When bread machines were first marketed, they produced tall, rectangular-shaped loaves of bread. The bread molds were square or slightly rectangular, but the finished loaves tended to be too tall and vertical compared to standard bread, resulting in an unusually shaped loaf. These vertical bread machines are still popular today. They tend to have a small footprint, so they take up less counter space and are easier to store. They are also cheaper and produce smaller loaves of bread, making them a good option for smaller families or those who do not eat a lot of bread.
The disadvantage of vertical loaves of bread is that they can be oddly shaped for making sandwiches, and slices may need to be cut to fit perfectly in the toaster. In addition, because the heating element is on the bottom of these machines, very tall loaves may cook unevenly, with a darker browning on the bottom and a very light top crust.
Horizontal Bread Machines
If tall loaves are too oddly shaped for you, look for a bread machine that produces horizontal and rectangular loaves, which are more similar to bread baked in a standard pan. These machines have a longer pan and larger baking chamber and tend to bake larger loaves than vertical bread machines. However, the larger baking capacity means that this type of bread machine is generally larger and takes up more space in the kitchen.
Because the dough has more room to move in a horizontal, rectangular pan, machines with only one paddle may be less efficient at kneading. Sometimes dough can get stuck at one end of the pan while the paddle rotates on its own, resulting in irregularly shaped loaves with more dough at one end or with a high center and shorter ends. Higher-end machines may be equipped with two kneading paddles so that the dough is processed more efficiently and the shape of the finished loaf is more uniform.
Machines that bake horizontal loaves tend to be more expensive than those that bake vertical loaves, but it is possible to find affordable horizontal bread machines.

Which Is The Best Brand For A Bread Maker?
Are Bread Makers Worth Buying?
Bread makers can be a convenient and practical appliance for home bakers, especially for those who enjoy the process of making bread from scratch but don't have a lot of time to do so. They can also be a good choice for people who have dietary restrictions and prefer to make their own bread to control the ingredients.
Here are some factors to consider when deciding whether a bread maker is worth buying:
- Cost: Bread makers range in price from around $50 to several hundred dollars, depending on the features and size of the machine.
- Time: If you enjoy the process of making bread by hand and have the time to do so, a bread maker may not be necessary. However, if you are short on time or don't enjoy the process of kneading and shaping dough, a bread maker can save you time and effort.
- Quality: Some people feel that bread made by a bread maker does not have the same texture and flavor as bread made by hand. However, with the right recipe and techniques, it is possible to produce high-quality bread in a bread maker.
- Ease of use: Bread makers are generally easy to use, with clear instructions and pre-programmed settings for different types of bread. However, if you prefer more control over the process, you may find that a bread maker does not offer enough flexibility.
Overall, whether a bread maker is worth buying depends on your individual circumstances and preferences. If you enjoy the process of making bread and have the time to do so, a bread maker may not be necessary. However, if you are short on time or prefer the convenience of an automated process, a bread maker can be a useful and practical appliance to have in your kitchen.
What Is The Difference Between A Bread Maker And A Bread Machine?
A bread maker and a bread machine are essentially the same things. Both refer to a small appliance that is designed to automate the process of making bread from scratch. Bread makers and bread machines have a similar design, consisting of a loaf pan, a mixing blade, and a heating element. They also have a variety of pre-programmed settings for different types of bread, such as white, whole wheat, and gluten-free.
The main difference between a bread maker and a bread machine is the terminology used to describe them. The terms "bread maker" and "bread machine" are often used interchangeably, and the choice of the term may depend on the manufacturer or the region where the appliance is being marketed. For example, some people may refer to the appliance as a bread maker because it helps them to make bread, while others may refer to it as a bread machine because it automates the process.
Overall, there is no significant difference between a bread maker and a bread machine. They are both small appliances that are designed to automate the process of making bread from scratch.
Why Is Bread Machine Bread Not Fluffy?
There are several reasons why bread made in a bread machine may not be as fluffy as bread made by hand or in a traditional oven:
- Overmixing: If the dough is overmixed, it can result in a dense, heavy loaf of bread. This can happen if the dough is mixed for too long or if the bread machine's mixing blade is not properly positioned.
- The improper ratio of ingredients: The ratio of ingredients, such as flour, water, yeast, and salt, plays a significant role in the texture and structure of the bread. If the ratio is not correct, it can result in a dense, heavy loaf.
- Insufficient rising time: Yeast needs time to ferment and produce carbon dioxide, which helps the bread to rise and become fluffy. If the dough does not have enough rising time, the bread may not be as fluffy as it could be.
- Incorrect baking temperature: The baking temperature and time can affect the texture of the bread. If the bread is baked at too high of a temperature or for too long, it can result in a dry, hard loaf.
Overall, there are several factors that can affect the fluffiness of bread made in a bread machine. Ensuring that the ingredients are properly measured, the dough is mixed correctly, and the bread is baked at the right temperature and for the right amount of time can help to produce a fluffy, light loaf of bread.
What Is One Drawback Of Using A Bread Machine?
One drawback of using a bread machine is that it may not produce bread with the same texture and flavor as bread made by hand or in a traditional oven. This is because the bread machine does not allow for the same level of control over the baking process as a traditional oven. Additionally, the bread machine's heating element and mixing blade may not produce the same results as hand-kneading and shaping the dough.
Another potential drawback of using a bread machine is that it may not be as flexible as making bread by hand. Some bread machines have limited options for customizing the bread-making process, such as the type of flour or the shaping of the dough.
Overall, while bread machines can be convenient and practical for home bakers, they may not produce bread with the same texture and flavor as bread made by hand or in a traditional oven.
Do Bread Machines Use A Lot Of Electricity?
Bread machines use electricity to operate, but they are generally not considered to be high-energy users. The exact amount of electricity used by a bread machine will depend on the size and model of the appliance, as well as the frequency of use.
According to estimates, the average bread machine uses between 500 and 1500 watts of electricity per hour, with an average usage of about 750 watts per hour. This is equivalent to about 0.75 kilowatts per hour (kWh).
To put this in perspective, the average home in the United States uses about 901 kWh per month, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This means that even if you use your bread machine for one hour every day, it would only account for about 0.08% of your total electricity usage per month.
The bread machines are not considered to be high-energy users, and their impact on your electricity usage is likely to be minimal.
Is It Healthier If I Make My Own Bread?
Making your own bread can be a healthier option compared to purchasing pre-packaged bread from the store, as it allows you to control the ingredients and avoid additives and preservatives that are commonly found in store-bought bread. Homemade bread can also be fresher and taste better than store-bought bread, as it is made with ingredients that are chosen by you and baked fresh.
However, it's important to keep in mind that the healthiness of homemade bread depends on the ingredients you use. For example, using whole grain flour, natural sweeteners, and healthy fats can result in a healthier loaf of bread compared to using refined flour, artificial sweeteners, and unhealthy fats.
Overall, making your own bread can be a healthier option compared to purchasing pre-packaged bread from the store, but it's important to choose healthy ingredients and to consume bread in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
