There are many different types of spiralizers, but I recommend a tabletop spiralizer with a suction handle! I use this spiralizer especially when making sweet potato noodles.
Hand-held spiralizers are smaller and easier to store, but they are also less convenient to use. It is nearly impossible to spiralize hard vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes.
Tabletop spiralizers, on the other hand, have a suction handle that attaches to the work surface to prevent the spiralizer from slipping, and you can have perfectly spiraled sweet potato noodles in minutes!
How to Make Sweet Potato Noodles
So you’ve got perfectly cut vegetable noodles, now how do you cook sweet potato noodles? This gluten-free, whole30, Paleo sweet potato noodles recipe can be prepared in a variety of ways, but my favorite is to pan fry them.
Cooking sweet potato noodles in a pan is great for several reasons.
- You can cook them a little longer or a little less, depending on how tender you want your noodles.
- It literally takes less than 5 minutes!
- Add whatever seasonings you have on hand to make your own sweet potato noodles.

- 1 clove garlic

- Using a tabletop spiralizer*, cut sweet potatoes into noodles with a spaghetti-style blade.

Tips for Cooking Sweet Potato Noodles
Before we get into the three ways to cook sweet potato noodles, here are a few tips for making these gorgeous orange noodles
Peel the potatoes
Unless you are making sweet potato fries or something similar, peel the sweet potatoes before rolling them into a spiral shape. The skin is tough. Also, if you try to spiralize sweet potatoes, the skin may get in the way and prevent it from working. Also, sweet potatoes are more like pasta without the texture of the potato skin. However, if you are making sweet potato fries, leave the skin on and use a little more elbow grease.

Pressure
When spiralizing sweet potatoes, don’t be afraid of pressure or force. When I used to demonstrate spiral slicing, I asked the audience to try spiral slicing sweet potatoes and the first thing I noticed was that there was very little force applied. Sweet potatoes are hard-fleshed, so you have to put a good amount of force to make the spiral shape work! Remember, sweet potatoes are cut with a knife.

Choosing the Right Pot
Bake sweet potato noodles in a non-stick pan or with plenty of oil. If you have ever tried to make sweet potato noodles and had them break off in the pan, you may have two problems.
Maybe you grabbed it too roughly with tongs. They are vegetables, so be gentle and kind.
The noodles stick to the pan and break off. To avoid this, use a nonstick pan or plenty of oil.
Choosing the Right Potatoes
Select the right sweet potatoes for spiraling. Overripe sweet potatoes will not spiral well. Instead, they will fall apart and make the noodles very brittle. Make sure the flesh is firm and the skin does not have many blemishes (black spots, etc.).

Where can you buy a spiralizer?
I recommend that you also buy this super thin flexible cutting board, because the spiralizer gets pretty dirty. Place the cutting board on the end of the spiralizer to catch the falling noodles. If you do not purchase one, a paper napkin or plate will work fine. For light colored or white countertops, we recommend sandwiching the spiralizer between paper towels as the noodles may stain the countertop.
Things to consider before purchasing an automatic or manual spiralizer
Automatic spiralizers are noisier and slightly more expensive than manual spiralizers. However, they are quicker, easier, and require less manual effort. If you have children, you may want to consider this as an option. On the other hand, hand cranks require more power and strength, but they are quieter, less expensive, and more functional. So think about what you are looking for.
